Beautiful setting on the private and scenic Boulder River.

Private fishing right out the back door and only 20 minutes to five star dinning in Big Timber!

The cabin has two bedrooms and one bathroom.

PLEASE NOTE: Next door is another home, the Boulder River Cabin, that can be rented together for a total of four bedrooms and three bathrooms. Boulder River Barn can accommodate up to four guests and the Boulder River Cabin can accommodate up to four more guests. Please inquire for rates for both.

This cabin has a 5 night minimum.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION: This wonderful barn style cabin was built by one of the area's premiere builders, who specializes in creating very rustic, historic looking cabins, with very fine finish details and amenities. There is a sense of Old West history here, yet you will enjoy fine linens, tasteful artwork and completely modern and up-to-date amenities. The Boulder River Barn and neighboring Boulder River Cabin are on 60 acres along a private stretch of the Boulder River, just south of McLeod. This road does have some truck traffic on it during weekdays as it leads to an operating mine at the end of the East Boulder Road. The roadside edge of the property is protected from the traffic by a high, solid wood fence.

BEDROOM AND BATHS: There are two spacious bedrooms in the home, and one bathroom with a double stall shower. The master bedroom has a beautiful king size bed and also serves as some of the living area of the home. It's a very large room and at one end of the room is a dining area and a bit of extra seating. A door at the end of the room leads out to a great screened in porch with more dining space. The second bedroom in the home has two twin beds.

KITCHEN: This galley style kitchen is small, but has absolutely everything you will need for all your meals! Great gas range, dishwasher, microwave, cuisinart, etc. All cookware, serving ware, utensils and a spice cabinet are there for guests. There is also a charcoal grill for cooking in the great outdoors.

DINING AREA: The dining area is at one end of the master bedroom. There are great views from the dining area out over the pond. Watch ducks, geese, deer and pheasants right from the table! You can also head out on the back deck and dine in the screened in porch, or out at the picnic table.

LIVING ROOM: The living room in the "barn" is a great long room, with plenty of cozy seating at one end, and a fun ping-pong table/pool table set up at the other end. The furnishings and artwork are a bit eclectic and just add to the overall charm of this funky abode. There is a 42" TV with a BluRay/DVD player and a stereo system with CD player and a mix of music to play.

SETTING, ACREAGE, VIEWS: From the back door, head out and explore the 60 acres and half mile of river frontage on the Boulder River. Mowed walking paths meander through the property. Down by the river you will find the "river hut" -- a great place to hang out and watch your crew fish or play in the river. There's a firepit, hammock, lawnchairs, and even a well-kept little outhouse so you don't have to hike back up to the house. Inside the hut is a cushioned bench with pillows and blankets in case it gets chilly. Drive a little bit farther up the main road and you will find trailheads for hiking or biking up into the Absaroka Beartooth Wilderness area.

ACTIVITIES NEARBY: Besides fishing on the Main, East and West Boulder Rivers, there is hiking and mountain biking on nearby trails, horseback riding, golf, skiing, tours of Yellowstone National Park, and everything that the towns of Big Timber, Livingston and Bozeman have to offer. There is also a badminton/volleyball game that can be set up out in the yard.

Beautiful surrounding scenery and well appointed interior. Deer walked past our window several times a day and it was quiet with almost no traffic nearby. If you want to 'get away' this is the place to go. We used it as a base to travel to other places but with an 80 mph speed limit on the interstate it didn't take too long to get where we wanted to go.

This is the second year we've stayed in the Barn and we love it for the location. We walk a few yards to the Boulder River and can fish for hours; or we can drive a few miles in different directions onto the Forest for hiking and hunting. The setting is peaceful and lovely. The Barn itself is great for a couple or small family, though the set-up is a little odd with the main bed in the same room as the dining table. There's a great living room area with a ping-pong/pool table, and this year they added a TV for watching Hulu, Netflix or DVDs. I was disappointed in the kitchen: a four-cup coffee maker meant that we had to make two pots just to get two cups of coffee each; there are limited or no spices, oils, vinegars or other basic cooking ingredients (who travels with that stuff?); there's no measuring cups or spoons and limited bowls for mixing, etc; the soup bowls were so shallow that we had to use mixing bowls to eat soup; there was no charcoal for the BBQ (last year there was charcoal but no starter). Positives are the many towels, both bath and kitchen, washer and dryer, laundry soap and cleaning supplies and plenty of paper products. Disappointing for us this year was the fact that there was no hot water in the kitchen and when we called the caretaker, he said that they knew about it, but hadn't gotten it fixed yet. I feel they could have at least informed us of this issue on or before arrival and let us know what their plans were for fixing it and the intermediate "work-around." So, we had this nasty surprise the first night and had to call the caretaker who "knew about it." We spent eight days turning on the bathroom sink hot water and letting that run so that hot water would run in the kitchen so we could wash our dishes. Here's the thing: this Barn is quaint and comfortable and meets our needs (which are not complicated). But it doesn't feel like a home with the minimal kitchen amenities/supplies and lack of attention to developing issues.
A very relaxing stay in a unique cabin located in a private sett

We have stayed in several Moutnain Home cabins and have never been disappointed. This cabin carries the "barn motiffe" to the smallest details, including door latches and kerosene lamps. It is a great base camp for exploring the Boulder River Valleys.

Living in New York City, my wife and I wanted to find a peaceful, secluded place to really feel alone and in nature for our honeymoon. This place was perfect. The house is located on a gorgeous piece of property with great views of the mountains as well as the boulder river. Can't be beaten in terms of privacy. There was one other cabin next door to us, but with so little traffic or human activity going on in the area it was so easy to forget about the busy world and really unwind. The house itself was also quite cozy and well maintained. It included great front and back yards where we enjoyed our time sipping drinks, cooking food on the grill, and watching baby deer and other animals scamper through. There was a pool/ping-pong table which we also enjoyed playing on a few of our lazy afternoons. The town of Big Timber is about a twenty minute drive away which was perfect for when we wanted to get dinner out. The Grand Hotel restaurant was especially good. The property is also close enough to Yellowstone that you can do a day trip there which we also really enjoyed. Overall we had an amazing stay and left wishing we had more time there. If you're looking for a location off the beaten path where you can enjoy the gorgeous surroundings from the privacy (and I mean privacy) of your home, his place can't be beat.

We stayed at this rental for the first leg of our honeymoon in Montana. We had never visited the area before, and the Boulder River Barn was the perfect way to start off our trip. The home is beautifully decorated and has very smart design features. We live in NYC in an apartment, so this home was very large and luxurious in certain ways! It was also very clean and the bed was quite comfortable. I loved the location because it was quiet and seemed secluded, yet it was easy to get where we needed to go when we ventured away from the property- ie: dinner out in Big Timber and a day trip to Yellowstone. There are many birds on the property which made a lovely soundtrack and the yellow warblers were fun to see flying about! There was also a mother deer and two young fawns that made appearances regularly- what a treat! We really loved being able to just relax and have fun playing pool/ping-pong and staying home and cooking while we stayed here. It was so nice to feel away from the hustle of everyday life and to sit back and take in the gorgeous views of the mountains.
