Crooked Canyon Lodge

Stunning lodge below Storm Castle Peak, one of the prettiest spots in the scenic Gallatin River Canyon.

A hot tub is just above the river for relaxing after a day of skiing, fishing or hiking.

Seven night minimum during the summer with Saturday arrival and departure.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION: This incredibly handsome lodge is built at the location of the fishing scenes in the classic movie “A River Runs Through It” in the Gallatin River Canyon between Bozeman and Big Sky. There are stunning views of the cliffs and the summit of Storm Castle from almost every room. From the deck you’ll enjoy the sound of the river just down the slope, pines all around, and the view across the river to the rock wall of Castle Rock. In addition to the lodge’s beautiful décor, you’ll enjoy a great stereo system, a 42” TV in the great room and in each bedroom, along with satellite internet throughout the lodge.

BEDROOMS AND BATHROOMS: The home has four bedrooms and extra sleeping space in three different areas – the den, the loft, and the TV room off the bunkroom. The lodge has 3.5 baths. The master bedroom, just off the great room, has a king size bed, double doors to the deck and the river, and a private bath with two sinks and a large shower with a river pebble floor. Upstairs there are two bedrooms and a loft. The bedrooms have a king and a queen size bed and the loft has a queen sleeper sofa. These areas share a bath with a tub & shower, 2 sinks and a large closet. At the other end of the home, the bunkroom has two sets of bunk beds, one a double/twin, the other a twin/twin setup. The attached TV room is a great kid zone with a TV/DVD/satellite setup and a double size futon couch. The bunkroom also includes a bath with tub and shower. The last sleeping space is a queen sleeper sofa in the den off the great room. There’s also a half bath just off the kitchen.

KITCHEN AND DINING: The well-appointed kitchen has granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, and a large walk-in pantry. There is a bar counter that seats 4 for chatting with the cook, and the dining table that seats 10 comfortably. There is also a gas barbecue for your outdoor grilling.

GREAT ROOM: The great room has an amazing bank of windows looking out to the river canyon. There’s a vaulted ceiling, a large stone wood burning fireplace, comfortable seating for a crowd, and a wet bar with a fridge and sink. It’s a wonderful room for gathering! There’s a stereo, iPod docking station, TV, DVD, and in-wall speakers for stereo and TV surround sound.

OFFICE: If you need to do a bit of work during your stay, you’ll enjoy the very comfortable den just off the great room. It’s equipped with comfortable seating, a nice built in desk, and wireless satellite Internet. Due to the home's location, internet streaming and downloading may not be guaranteed

SETTING, ACREAGE, AND VIEWS: This lodge is situated at the filming location for the great fishing scenes in the classic “A River Runs Through It”. Hollywood chooses locations carefully, and they did well on this one. The Storm Castle cliffs are spectacular, and the view up-river to Garnet Peak is beautiful.

OUTDOOR AMENITIES: The highlight is a large deck accessed from the great room, dining room and master bedroom. From this vantage point, you’re looking up at the incredible cliffs and down towards the Gallatin River. With a picnic table in the yard, a hot tub & stereo speakers on the deck, it’s a perfect place to spend your evenings.

ACTIVITIES NEARBY: Besides fishing right out the door, hiking, skiing and whitewater rafting are nearby. One of our favorite river outfitters is just up the road, and there are great hiking trailheads within a few miles. Big Sky and Moonlight Basin Ski areas are about 30 minutes away. Be sure to check out Yellowstone National Park!

Crooked Canyon is an amazing home with amazing scenery. The house was roomy and beautiful inside and walking down to the river was breathtaking. We had 8 adults in this amazing home and never felt as though we were on top of each other. We would spend all day outside enjoying Montana and all evening fireside playing games. This house is worth the price. We will definitely be back! advertised..only better!

This is an exceptional home. It was perfect! The family room/kitchen area was more than we could hope for and made for the perfect gathering spot for our extended family group of 13! We loved it and highly recommend. It exceeded our expectations.

Crooked Canyon Lodge was one of the nicest rentals we have stayed in. The place was spotless and had all the accommodations we needed. The grandkids loved the bedroom above the garage. The hiking trails close to the lodge are fantastic. We loved having the Gallatin River right out the back door. The grandkids spent hours throwing rocks in the river and breaking the ice. I would recommend this place this anyone

The lodge was beautiful, just as described. A lot of open space, beautiful furnishings. Plenty of bedding, kitchen utensils, fire wood, etc. the loft over the garage created a great separate living space. The extra amenities were very helpful, spices, foil, Saran Wrap, etc. Every detail was included.
Great Place!

This is our third visit to Montana from the UK and our first visit to the Galllatin. The house itself is beautiful and extremely well-equipped and comfortable. The beds were great as were all the bathrooms, tons of hot water! The hot tub was an added bonus which we all enjoyed too. We did, however, feel slightly mis-led about the proximity of the (very) busy road so close to the house and sadly, we were very disappointed in the garden - not really a garden at all as very overgrown and with nowhere to sit or sunbathe. The steps down to the river were steep (we were all fine with them) but young children would find them a challenge! Proximity to activities was superb, white water rafting and zip lining right on our doorstep. We will return to Montana next year as we are all in love with it but probably not to this house!
Absolutely beautiful home, but not appropriate for young children

The Crooked Canyon Lodge was lovely. The home was beautiful and meticulously maintained. The pantry was well stocked with cooking essentials and there were plenty of plates, and both cooking and eating utensils. The backdrop was awe-inspiring, and the river only steps away. Our party of 12 people (2 families) were very comfortable in this spacious cabin. However, beware that this home is not appropriate for young children or the elderly. The climb down to the river is steep and the river was high (not good for fishing in June and dangerous for children). There is little property around the cabin (2 other cabins are adjacent) and the highly trafficked highway is uncomfortably close. There is no place to hike or walk around the property that is even remotely flat and no place for a young child to play or run. So although the accommodations and scenery were truly beautiful, we were forced to drive frequently to go on walks or allow the children to play. I would recommend this property for adults who want a week away to simply enjoy the scenery from the lovely deck and admire the beauty of Montana.
