Epic Adventure at the Ashling Ranch

Traveled to the Ashling Ranch with my husband, 2 children and their significant others and had a magical time. The house was impeccable and had every amenity imaginable. The views and sounds from every porch were perfection. We hiked to both Pine Creek Falls and Passage Creek Falls , went on a boat ride with Hidden Treasures at the Horseshoe Bend Marina in Big Horn Canyon (amazing), took a trail ride with Billie from Yellowstone Roughriders ( this was the highlight of everyone's trip!) and a private guided tour through Yellowstone's north entrance with Barbara from Wild Bear Adventures (Barbara was very knowledgeable and took us to places off the beaten path), went to a beer festival in Gardiner, celebrated our son's birthday at Chico Hotsprings , enjoyed the local cuisine at The Wildflour Bakery, Follow Yer' Nose BBQ, Wonderland Cafe & Lodge and The Corral. And of course, we enjoyed our solitude on property relaxing on the porch, playing games at the game table, walking in the creek, hiking around the property and hanging at the cabin by the Yellowstone River ( a short walk from the home). Luke from Mountain Homes was a wealth of information and helped me plan our fabulous adventure. We met the property owners Bill and Nancy and they were as nice as they could be. We only scratched the surface of what the beautiful area has to offer, so.....we will most definitely be back!!!!

This place is magical. We came to spread my husband's ashes in the Yellowstone, his favorite fishing river. Paradise Valley is truly paradise and Ashling Rach was part of the magic. The home is beautiful and the amenities are well thought out. Nancy, the owner, stopped to visit us, what a gracious person. The pictures do not do it justice. The breeze, the babbling creek, the stunning vistas all helped in you journey of saying goodbye. Thank you.

We absolutely loved staying the week on Ashling Ranch!! Every night after dinner our 3 teenagers would walk across the street and pet the horses. We also loved being able to walk down to the cabin that sat on the river and relax as well. Loved being able to sleep with the windows open listening to the water in the creek flowing in to the Yellowstone River. But the best part is walking out the front door to the breathtaking view...Well all angles honestly are breathtaking!! Fully stocked house with everything you could possibly need/want. It was conveniently located to Gardnier/YS North entrance...maybe a 20 min drive. Would definitely come back!!

We loved staying at Ashling Ranch. The cabin was spacious, comfy and clean. The kitchen was well equipped with all of the pots, pans, utensils, etc. that we needed. We used the doggie shower for our pups and to clean our feet after wading in the river for fishing and tubing. We enjoyed using the decks while taking in the beautiful scenery. Having close private access to the Yellowstone River for fishing and inner tubing was wonderful! We enjoyed family game time around the game table in the loft. It was convenient having a washer and dryer available to use. The beds and furniture were comfortable and the cabin was nicely decorated. As others have said, listening to the rushing water of the creek in the back yard was so relaxing. There are trail rides, hiking trails, guided fly fishing trips, grizzly bear viewing locations and more nearby. We ran out of time, so we didn’t get to make the short trip to Yellowstone National Park; maybe next time! We would love to come back and think it would be a beautiful winter wonderland.

We rented Ashling Ranch for two weeks in June and invited our daughters from both coasts to join us. The home was beautiful yet so very comfortable, and sleeping at night to the sound of Rock Creek was wonderfully restful; what an ultimate vacation home! Everyone we encountered who was associated with Ashling Ranch and Mountain Home were some of the friendliest, most helpful, informative and hospitable people we have ever met. For instance, there was a problem with the microwave oven and one of the owners, Mary, was there at a moments notice and gave us all sorts of tips on restaurants, interesting area attractions, and activities. A young man (I think his name was Jacob) from Mountain Home stopped by with the new microwave the next day, and it was installed within two hours. Both he and the installer were full of additional great information about activities in the area, and where to find great fishing. Duncan, the other owner, was also very friendly and helpful in directing us to sights to be seen in addition to Yellowstone thank you Duncan! Even the lady wrangler (Margaret, I believe) who cut the grass, and the housekeeper (Rose) who freshened up our house after the first week, were also very welcoming and sweet. The home was a million dollar home, and had everything we needed or wanted, including a poker table upstairs, a desk and a printer if needed, lots of great reading books, and comfy decks where we could unwind. The kitchen and pantry were very well stocked; I loved the gas cooktop, and the laundry room was a full-sized room with an immense island for folding that I wish I had in my home! It had drawers with extra towels to use for swimming or going to Chico Hot Springs. Mary had pretty flowers all around outside to delight in, and a friendly wave whenever we might see her. I cant forget to mention the heated slate floors, not only beautiful, but so pleasant on bare feet! We were fortunate too in that one weekend was Fathers Day and the State of Montana granted free fishing access to everyone no license needed! There is a perfect fishing hole down at the Riverside Cabin that goes with the Ashling Ranch home. Even though the water was rushing and high, just down from where Rock Creek runs into the Yellowstone River our sons-in-law fished for hours. Wish they would have brought a couple trout home instead of throwing them back! Everything was perfect, the weather was great and we couldnt have wished for anything more. Thank you Mountain Home, and Mary and Duncan, for an unforgettable two weeks!

Manager's Response

The sounds of Rock Creek drifting in through the windows at night is a special part of Ashling Ranch. All of us here at Mountain Home live out here for a reason, and it's so much fun to share our knowledge and love of Montana with our guests! Glad we could point you in the right direction to find a honey hole. Ashling is in a one-of-a-kind spot and we hope you come back to enjoy it again next year! - Jacob

This home was absolutely what we were looking for. Private and tucked away but not so far that it is inconvenient to go to places. My wife and I stayed here with our three teenage kids and we were all thrilled with the accommodations. The house is exactly as pictured as a getaway mountain house. Rock Creek was crystal clear and offered a calming background when sleeping. We were able to watch Elk, Mule Deer and Pronghorn from the decks and enjoyed coffee along the bank of the Yellowstone. Our only regret is that we planned so many activities that we were not able to enjoy the house more for some downtime. The house is a great launching point to do activities in the Montana mountains, Gardiner, Chico, Yellowstone, and beyond. If you stay here also be sure to not overlook the restaurants in Emigrant which are authentic and filled with friendly locals. We hope to return sooner rather than later and experience the Montana Fall or Winter next time!

We really loved this home. Very spacious and well stocked. Peaceful and quiet. So many places to sit out and just enjoy the wildlife and each others company. Very rejuvenating. We spent hours sitting on the decks in the mornings wrapped in blankets which we shed when the wind stopped blowing. The sound of the water flowing was also very relaxing and tranquil. Spent a couple hours reading in the hammocks out by the river. Loved it. Only thing we found unpleasant was the bridge was out and you would have to drive down a long, winding gravel road. They are working on the bridge but once you were back at the house you forgot about the road. Some of the locks on the doors were a little tricky but never had any problems. We played cards at the cabin that was down on the river which was also amazing Yellowstone was about 15 to 20 minutes to the north entrance. The house was very clean. We loved the Wild Flower Bakery in Emigrant and Follow your nose BBQ right next door to the Wild Flower Bakery. Would diffidently stay here again.

Manager's Response

Hello Janet - Your stay at Ashling Ranch sounds like the definition of a relaxing retreat. We're so glad that you enjoyed your stay. And sorry about the bridge repair - it's temporary of course, but you hit it when it was in full swing. Happy too that you appreciated the well-stocked house. All of the homes that we care for are stocked with the basics for guests - paper towels, TP, laundry soap, dish soap, hand soap and spices. We want you to be able to settle into vacation mode as quickly as possible, so this is the least we can do!

The cabin was clean, well appointed and quite charming and my guests were pleased too. With three decks from which to enjoy morning coffee, each with a fantastic view, each day started in complete peace and surrounded by heavenly mountains, the most beautiful sky and wildlife. The area and people were dog friendly so my pup was able to throughly enjoy the trail right behind the cabin, the river and other hiking areas nearby. Yellowstone is just a short drive from Ashling Ranch but in reality, one would never have to leave the ranch in order to take in the pure beauty and peacefulness of Montana or find a great nature trail on which to hike. This was my first visit to Montana and it certainly won't be my last. Paradise Valley and Ashling Ranch was the perfect introduction and I highly recommend the experience.

Ashling Ranch is situated in Paradise Valley, easily one of Montanas more picturesque areas. Our empty nest family and multi-decade friends arrival was via Bozeman, which is about an hours drive from the ranch, provided you dont stop in Livingston for a walkabout, lunch and a local beer like we did. Ashlings location is pretty much ideal, just half an hour north to Livingston and 20 minutes south to Gardiner. Both towns are worth visiting, but if one absolutely must leave Ashling its probably for the areas main attraction, Yellowstone National Park, with Gardiner a primary entrance. Ashlings Mountain modern accommodations were clean, fully appointed, and ready for us upon our arrival. The ranch is owned and operated by long term residents of the Valley, so pretty much everything we wanted to do was easily coordinated. If youre interested in hiking, fishing, river rafting, horseback riding, sight-seeing, exploring the majesty of Yellowstone, or just getting off the grid and into nature, Ashling is a great way to do it. The ranch even has a river cabin on the Yellowstone River, which we found great for taking leisurely naps, reading, and telling more than a few tall tales into the wee hours. Ashling Ranch is an unpretentious and welcoming place where their nature-loving guests can be active or just kick back and relax. Were definitely hoping to go back. Highly recommended.

Three couples reserved the Ranch and we thoroughly loved every aspect. It is great as a base to explore Yellowstone as well as having fantastic hikes nearby. We had a hilarious day tubing down the river (a short walk from the Ranch) with one of the hosts. Mary is great entertainment and a delight. She knows how to be as involved, or not, to make the occasion great. How much did I love it? I am flying my family out this summer to share this special experience with them too! Tom, Florida
