Tips for Traveling with Your Pets

Traveling With Your Pets

Montana is the perfect place to explore the great outdoors with your pets.  Montana’s vast hiking trails and pristine rivers provide all the exercise your dog needs and he can take a little dip afterwards.  Spend the day by the river or bag that peak across the valley and your companion will have a blast.

Here at Mountain Home we love our dogs and have our very own favorite spots to walk, run, or explore with our buddies.  Check out the pictures of our staff and their pups to find out our local faves.

Montana doesn’t just have far off adventures for you and your pets, it also offers specialty stores, urban parks, doggy daycare, and a large offering of veterinarians and emergency hospitals. See below for our recommendations.

When bringing your pets, be sure to be prepared for each area’s regulations, especially when visiting National Parks.

 Yellowstone National Park and Pets

When traveling to national parks be sure to think about how you will navigate the park with your pet.  Yellowstone has

“M” Trail to Mt. Baldy-Bozeman, MT

strict regulations on dogs in the park to ensure the safety of visitors, animals, and of course, your dog.  The basic regulations are as follows:

Pets may accompany you in developed areas of the park. This includes any areas within 100 feet (30.5 meters) of roads, parking areas, and campgrounds (excluding thermal areas). Pets must be kept under physical control at all times – caged, crated, or on a leash not to exceed six feet in length.

For the safety of your pet, other people, and park wildlife, please observe the following regulations:

  • Pets are not allowed on trails or boardwalks, in the backcountry, or in thermal areas.
  • Pets may not be left unattended or tied to an object.
  • Pets may not be left in a situation where food, water, shade, ventilation, and other basic needs are inadequate.
  • Owners must bag and dispose of pet waste.
